Band Bios
Detour:Jazz was formed in December of 2006. Originally an off-shoot of a soul band, with added instrumental sets for a dinner set. D:J morphed and evolved to what it is today. Trumpet player Casey Terada joined D:J in October of 2007. Percussionist Vinnie O recently joined the group in 2008. Gabriel Rice, funky bass man joined in 2009!

One of the founding members of Detour:Jazz, Finch has been playing piano for 31+ years, professionally for around 18. He released his Debut CD "From The Heart:" in June 2001 which is primarily solo piano. He has been playing Solo Piano, Jazz, and Smooth Jazz since College, and has played with, Wynton Marsalis, Tom Grant, The Crazy 8’s, Patrick Lamb, Dan Balmer, Norman Sylvester, Jay "Bird" Koder, Andy Stokes and More.
Influences: Herbie Hancock, Tom Grant, Jacky Terrason, Bruce Hornsby, Jeff Lorber, Ray Charles and John Coltrane.
Gear: Finch Plays Yamaha Pianos / Keyboards. Yamaha CP300, 1974 Fender Rhodes Stage Mark I Piano, Leslie 60 Electronic Vibrato Amp/Cabs, Groove Tubes SFX Amplifier, Gator Cases, and Senheiser Microphone.

| James Hutchens, Guitar (visit site)
A founding member, Hutchens, a venerable and ecclectic guitarist adds his unique touch of blues / contemporary jazz and rock to Detour:Jazz. Hutchens and Finch have played in numerous projects together since 2001. Hutchens has been playing guitar since High School, more seriously in the last ten years. Hutchens is the web developer and web host for Detour:Jazz.

Gear: Hutchens plays Gibson ES335 Custom Dot Guitar and a number of fender strats / teles, through a Poly-Tone Amplifier, multiple effect pedals, and Plays Ibanez accoustic / Electric Nylon String Guitar. | |
| Vince Overland, Percussion
An Oregon native who grew up playing in concert, marching and Scottish bagpipe bands as well as a few country, jazz and rock groups when he was younger, 'Vinnie O' later hooked up with an original rock band 'Soft Monkey', a blues cover band 'The GraveRobbers' and a spanish rock group 'Los Guys'. They played at local venues in So Cal, including 'B.B. Kings' and 'The Blue Saloon' where they had weekly gigs. Vinnie O has a great groove on the shuffles and latin beats.

| Gabriel Rice, Bass
Gabriel Rice is a graduate of The University of Miami with a Bachelors Degree in Double Bass Studies. He has been playing classical as well as jazz for the past six years. Gabe was introduced to the electric bass as a temporary summer "fill in" for a garage band during junior high school. He has been playing the electric bass ever since for the past fifteen years.

| Casey Terada, Trumpet
Casey Terada, experienced big band trumpet section leader, and accountant. Casey played trumpet all throughout high school, college and after with the likes of Betty Berger Big Band, COCC Big Band, many combos, and a lot of session work. Casey is a welcome addition to Detour:Jazz joined in October 2007.
