Last saturday on the 20th at the High Desert Museum, Detour:Jazz played a dinner party at the 'deck the halls' lobby of the High Desert Museum.  Probably 100+ people in attendance with holiday spirits flowing.  The subtle jazzy xmas songs of the band were superbly enhanced by the sultry nuances of Michelle Van Handel.  Again, her voice, added to the group, enhances our sound to ethereal heights.  Always a pleasure playing with Michelle....

Last saturday the 7th at the Decoy, if you weren't there, you were probably at home staying cozy next to the fire because it was a little chilly and rainy that night.  But, if you did stop by for the great libations or excellent food and service, you were treated to some of the best jazz duo/trio sounds in town.  The Decoy is an intimate venue for listening to smooth jazz, and the band, Detour Jazz did not let you down with their classic mix of standards and original songs that they play.

Casey on trumpet and flugle was outstanding as usual as evidenced by the crowd reactions and Dave on the keyboard was entertaining the audience by interspersing mixes of songs within a song, keeping the band on their musical toes and delighting the audiophiles.

Vinnie O sat in for a couple sets on his hand drums to augment the classical tones that were being laid down by Dave and Casey. 

All in all, it was a very entertaining evening for those that were there.  If you missed this gig, stayed tuned for future sounds by Detour Jazz at local venues, bars and restaurants around town.

The crowd at Elk Lake was amazing.  We had people in the lake on their canoes and kayaks, listening, as well as the folks at the restaurant, heard the prime rib was tasty, people in their lawn chairs in front of the stage as well as others dancing and meandering around and a bunch of friends from Sisters.  The scene was cool, the evening air was a respite from the heat in Bend and the music was groovin' with the Caseman blowin' mellow on the flugle, James riffin' on his Gibby, Dave laying down the bass and his solo antics on his Yamaha and V-Bob in the pocket on skins.  A great time had by all thanx to Jay and crew at Elk Lake Resort.  Let's do it again!  -- Vinny O...

The gig at Caldera springs was great, had Osprey eagles fishing behind us in the lake and the sultry sounds of Michelle Van Handel were cool.  Check out some of the pics.

Saturdays gig was an opener for David Patrone, a crooner from San Diego, CA.  We played a great set and heard that by far, we had some of the best music going that night, but from what we could hear, all the music was jumpin'.  The set for Patrone was nice in that we fit right into his style of music and that Dave Finch on keyboards filled in everything that Patrone needed.  Dave was 'the man'.  Again, James on guitar filled in nicely and Casey got down and dirty where needed and Vinnie O on skins filled the room with the needed back beats.  On sunday, we again were the band for the music stylings of David Patrone and being that it was only our second time playing together, it came off nice and precise.  All in all, it was a very fun time.  Next year will be even better thanx to the efforts of Jade and her team in LA Pine.  Make sure to join us!

Welcome Vince, we so enjoy having you, if you don't know Vince, he's one of the most laid back and fun guys you'll ever meet. . he is versatility and experience on percussion and adds a real nice feel to the new sound....

Perfect time of year for Outdoor functions: Parties, Festivals, shin-digs, Extravaganzas. . . YUP we do them all: the unveiling of our new "sub title, or description" would be "Sophisticated Groove" and yup that is exactly what we are.

I am so excited for this summer, some upcoming gigs (like 28) and new baby son coming in August, and a whole bunch of cool BBQ's and more. .

Call us, let us know how you'd want to "funkify" or add some "sophisticated" groove to your gathering. We're just the band for it!

here's a new blog feature, hopefully some of the other  members will take advantage of this feature, and write about plans,  gigs, notes, ideas, and just random thoughts.

Here's an update of what is yet to come with detourjazz.com

1.) recording, in may we'll be underway with masterful Clay Smith and SoundSmith Studios a 4 or 5 song EP.  We will predominantly use these recordings for PR, demo and management reasons, but we will have them available to buy at gigs, and online.

2.) looking at managment, agents to help us with the booking process interested?

3.) more and more photos updated, if you take photos of the band, email me dave@detourjazz.com and i'll update our gallery with anything sent, I want to see a fan section for photos.

4.) Videos: we really want to get some videos up of us too, that's down the road, but in the works.
